As the year draws to a close, the journey of reflection and anticipation begins. In the midst of holiday hustle and bustle, it’s natural to reflect on the journey we’ve traveled. However, many of us face a unique set of challenges during this time – juggling year-end goals, navigating holiday distractions, and contemplating the road ahead in our careers, business and life in general. As go-getters these thoughts can become overwhelming.
Let’s explore the significance of cultivating an unshakeable mindset as we approach the year’s end – a mindshift that not only helps you to survive and “get through the holidays” but to thrive during this critical period.
Talk About It:
Year-end reflections can often be a double-edged sword, stirring both excitement for the new year and anxiety about unmet goals. Believe it or not, this is a common challenge faced by high performers and elite achievers. Having a solid perspective and mindset is a powerful tool for navigating uncertainties or faux feelings of “failure”.
I don’t know about you but this is a time of the year that tends to test my resilience and commitment to certain goals. Part of me wants to give up and the other part wants to keep pushing. If I’m not careful, I can allow my thoughts to cause me to spiral into a depression. According to a study conducted by the American PsychiatricAssociation, nearly 40% of individuals report increased stress levels during the holiday season. It is important to note that we all experience stress differently. Someone who is anxious about meeting a goal is different from the person who is anxious about not having enough money to prepare a family meal. Let’s not judge the source of the stress or anxiety. Overall, stress can significantly impact our mindset and hinder progress towards our next steps, whatever they may be.
Take a moment to think about some real-life stories of individuals who faced, and conquered, year-end challenges through the strength of their mindset. What lessons can you learn from them?I’m sure many of them have a few things in common that could be beneficial for you.
To cultivate an unshakeable mindset, consider incorporating mindfulness practices into your daily routine. Research from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) suggests that regular mindfulness meditation can reduce stress and improve overall well-being. I know it sounds cliché to talk about mindfulness and meditation but the more you focus on gratitude and appreciation, the more your mind shifts away from your problems and concerns.
You can literally shift your state in about 5 minutes by taking a few deep breaths and remembering that there are things (and people) in your life that were once dreams and goals but you’ve managed to turn them into physical manifestations. This is evidence that you can and will continue making progress as long as you embrace this mindshift and move forward.
As you stand on the brink of a new year, remember that an unshakeable mindset is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity. It’s the compass that guides you through the turbulence of year-end challenges and lights the way toward a future filled with success and fulfillment. You’ve done it before and you can do it again.
Happy Shifting and Happy Holidays,
Until next time,
